چکیده

Many fundamental computer vision problems, including optical flow estimation and stereo matching, involve the key step of computing dense color matching among pixels. In this paper, we show that by merely upsampling, we can improve sub-pixel correspondence estimation. In addition, we identify the regularization bias problem and explore its relationship to image resolution. We propose a general upsampling framework to compute sub-pixel color matching for different computer vision problems. Various experiments were performed on motion estimation and stereo matching data. We are able to reduce errors by up to 30%, which would otherwise be very difficult to achieve through other conventional optimization methods. 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Path-space Motion Estimation and Decomposition for Robust Animation Filtering

Renderings of animation sequences with physics-based Monte Carlo light transport simulations are exceedingly costly to generate frame-by-frame, yet much of this computation is highly redundant due to the strong coherence in space, time and among samples. A promising approach pursued in prior work entails subsampling the sequence in space, time, and number of samples, followed by image-based spa...

Evaluating Fourier Cross-Correlation Sub-Pixel Registration in Landsat Images

Multi-temporal analysis is one of the main applications of remote sensing, and Landsat imagery has been one of the main resources for many years. However, the moderate spatial resolution (30 m) restricts their use for high precision applications. In this paper, we simulate Landsat scenes to evaluate, by means of an exhaustive number of tests, a subpixel registration process based on phase corre...

Real-Time Spatial and Depth Upsampling for Range Data

Current active 3D range sensors, such as time-of-flight cameras, enable acquiring of range maps at video frame rate. Unfortunately, the resolution of the range maps is quite limited and the captured data are typically contaminated by noise. We therefore present a simple pipeline to enhance the quality as well as improve the spatial and depth resolution of range data in real time. To improve the...

Efficient Depth Map Upsampling Method Using Standard Deviation

In this paper, we present an adaptive multi-lateral filtering method to increase depth map resolution. Joint bilateral upsampling (JBU) increases the resolution of a depth image considering the photometric property of corresponding high-resolution color image. The JBU uses both a spatial weighting function and a color weighting function evaluated on the data values. However, JBU causes a textur...

Interpolation from Grid Lines: Linear, Transfinite and Weighted Method

When two sets of line scans are acquired orthogonal to each other, intensity values are known along the lines of a grid. To view these values as an image, intensities need to be interpolated at regularly spaced pixel positions. In this paper we evaluate three methods for interpolation from grid lines: linear, transfinite and weighted. Linear method does not preserve the known values along the g...
